MUSIC - Universal Language
Longfellow reminds us that music is a "universal
language", a powerful vehicle for sharing feelings with one
another. As a language, music should be both expressive and
communicative. Just as children experience spoken language before
they learn to write and read it, so they should experience the joy of
music before they attempt to learn it visually.

MUSIC - A
Necessary "Nutrient" for Healthy, Human Development

In HeARTSongs children will experience music not only through the
traditional group singing and listening activities, but also through an
innovative sensory approach which uses visual and "hands on"
stimuli. This powerful combination provides a unique and
well-rounded musical experience for children.
Edwin Gordon, Music Educator and Researcher, states that
"research reveals that musical aptitude becomes stabilized before
age nine, with the possibility for the greatest aptitude increase
occurring between the ages of five and six. More consideration
needs to be given to the quality of musical experiences for young
children, ages three through eight, for these youngsters are
developmentally receptive/responsive at a crucial juncture in life. |
